Love keeps Irish beauty therapist in Garden City

WHEN Katie Kelleher first arrived in Australia, she knew she wasn't going back home to Ireland.

Miss Kelleher grew up in South County Dublin and studied beauty therapy when she finished school.

She gained advanced qualifications in aromatherapy and electrolysis and worked in make-up, which was a passion of hers.

At the age of 22, she decided to come to Australia.

Miss Kelleher, now 27, worked in Sydney at Yves Saint Laurent for a period of time and got to work on Australia's Next Top Model before coming to south-east Queensland.

Her original plan was to only be in the country for two years, but she met someone in Gatton and fell in love.

For the past two years, she's worked at Ella Bache Middle Ridge salon in Toowoomba.

She said the first tasks for the day included checking appointments, making sure the rooms were ready for clients, making hot towels and checking stock levels.

She said as for the appointments themselves, they varied from facials, massages, waxing, tans, manicures and pedicures, hot stone therapy and body exfoliations.

After the salon closes for the day, she travels home to her partner, a diesel mechanic for Nolan's Transport, and her Maltese Shih Tzu.

Miss Kelleher said she loved her job, especially the training it provided, and loved meeting new people.

She also said she loved living in Australia.

"I find it to be the land of opportunity," she said.

"There's nothing you can't achieve."
