LOTE Land?

It's only March but we've already got a leading contender for most bizarre sporting story of 2017.

Dual-code legend Lote Tuqiri claims he's officially changed his name to Lote Land, tweeting a photo of what appears to be an official government document on Friday night.

Tuqiri's phone was switched off when tried to contact him for confirmation or clarification.

The bizarre tweet is the culmination of a hilarious Twitter exchange by former players including Wendell Sailor and Brent Tate throughout the week.

Tuqiri - who represented Australia in both rugby league and rugby union - had been urged to change his surname to Land in honour of Manly's new NRL homebase, renamed Lottoland this year.
