‘Logical’ bypass outcome

The logical outcome to an ‘idiot’ option.

That’s the reaction from Bangalow Chamber of Commerce president, Michael Malloy, to the decision last Friday by the RTA to abandon the planned Bangalow southern bypass.

Mr Malloy said the chamber was always very much opposed to the proposal and it was sad that a lot of public money had been spent on it.

“There were three people who wanted it and 3000 who didn’t,” he said.

“I am surprised they even explored it. We always thought it was an idiot option.”

An RTA spokesperson said the decision to abandon the southern bypass was made after research had shown it would not be economically viable and would result in only minor improvements to the regional road network.
