Live powerlines hit traffic
A SEMI-TRAILER brought down live powerlines on the Pacific Highway at Woolgoolga yesterday after it crashed into a pole.
The accident happened in River St, just below the Sikh Temple on the Hill, and led to lengthy traffic delays.
The highway was partially closed for about an hour.
Police said the truck's trailer left the roadway and struck the pole at 9.45am.
The force of the impact saw live powerlines fall across the southbound lane.
The truck carting steel form work and girders is believed to have veered off the road after turning off the highway.
Emergency Services attended the scene and closed both lanes of the highway as Essential Energy crews cut power to the town.
It took just over half-an-hour for the site to be made safe.
Highway traffic backed up for several kilometres either side of the town.
Once the powerlines were removed from the highway, River St remained closed to traffic as the truck was taken away.
