MOTORSPORT is on the agenda for Lexus.

With the luxury brand looking to shake up its image in Australia, Lexus has signed a deal to be the official safety car for V8 Supercars this year.

The 5.0-litre V8-powered RC F coupe will be sporting the yellow lights throughout the 2015 season.

Lexus Australia chief executive Sean Hanley said the deal "will do a great deal for our brand", but fell short of committing to racing in the short term.

"Lexus has determined that it will be driven by the obvious love of cars held by its chief executive," he said.

"He actively encourages us to share that love. V8 Supercars is the pinnacle of domestic motorsport so, from a Lexus perspective, the timing and engagement in this part of motorsport was obvious.

"We will commit to our investment at this level and we will use it to evaluate our future in Australian motorsport."
