Letter to paper provides an unusual way to pass on sad news

A QUEENSLAND woman has taken the unusual step of writing a letter to the local paper to alert family friends on the Northern Rivers to the death of her father.

Therese Webster of Howard, near Hervey Bay in Queensland, wrote to The Northern Star looking for help tracking down Mullumbimby resident Wendy Portelli and her father, Leo Portelli.

"I have tried to contact Leo only to find that his home is on the market," Ms Webster says in her letter.

"Leo and my father Bruce were very dear friends, and Leo has been an uncle to my brothers and I all our lives."

Ms Webster says Ms Portelli (who may have a different married name) moved to Mullumbimby "years ago" from Blacktown.

"I last saw her father Leo four weeks after her mother Joy had passed away last year," she says in the letter.

If you know Ms Portelli or her father, please pass this on.

If Ms Portelli or her father would like to get in touch with Ms Webster, phone us on 02 6620 0500 or email news@northernstar.com.au.
