Leishman backing himself for a top-10 win at Rochester

MARC Leishman is backing himself to push for a top-10 finish on the final day of the US PGA at Rochester tomorrow, and while placed at even par, that is not as crazy as it sounds.

You only have to look at American Dustin Johnson's incredible rise up the ladder, to give the Warrnambool-born Leishman a chance of realising this goal.

Johnson shot a 65 out of nowhere, after struggling with 72 and 71 on the first two days, just making the cut, before remarkably putting himself into equal ninth this morning.

Leishman also showed good signs early in his third round, before finishing with his third score of 70 in as many days, to be tied at 21st going into tomorrow's final round.

Then there were the dramatic falls down the leaderboard from both America's Matt Kuchar and England's Justin Rose.

Kuchar was tied second with 133, before falling to equal 12th with a 76, and Rose was equal third with 134, slipping to equal 28th with a 77, emphasising the unpredictable nature of this tournament.

Leishman birdied the second hole, and followed up with another on the fourth, courtesy of a well-timed chip on his second stroke.

But a mental lapse saw the 29-year-old miss a simple putt on the sixth to bogey, and from there he hovered around an even score for the rest of the day.

"I played reasonably well. On hole six, I just lost my concentration," he said.
