League convert Koroibete named in Wallabies tour squad

RUGBY UNION: He hasn't even played for club side the Melbourne Rebels yet but league convert Marika Koroibete has been named in Michael Cheika's Wallabies squad for the Spring Tour of Europe.

Koroibete is one of three new faces in the 32-man squad, alongside Kyle Godwin and Tolu Latu.

If he does make his debut in any of the Tests, the former Melbourne Storm winger will become the first player since Tatafu Polota-Nau earned his first Australian cap in 2005 to represent his country before playing Super Rugby.

Five-eighth Godwin, who was born in Zimbabwe, and hooker Latu both made the squad after having impressive National Rugby Championship campaigns for the NSW Country Eagles, who reached the final before losing to Perth Spirit.

Koroibete said last month he could make the Spring Tour after revealing that Cheika had used the carrot of a tour spot to help lure him back to union, which he played in his native Fiji alongside his potential Wallabies teammate Sefanaia Naivalu, who is also on the tour.

Samu Kerevi missed out on the tour after he was forced to have surgery on the ankle he injured in the loss to the All Blacks on Saturday.

Kerevi will not play again in 2016 and his absence could allow Cheika to move Israel Folau into the centres for the upcoming Tests.

Will Genia, who missed the Bledisloe Cup loss as he was recalled by his French Club Stade Francais, has also been included in the squad.

Dean Mumm has also made the squad, despite being banned from playing in the opening Test against Wales for an elbow on Brodie Retallick in the 37-10 loss to the All Blacks at Eden Park.

The Wallabies completed a Grand Slam by defeating England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland in 1984 and will be looking for another when they fly off on Friday.

Australia will also play France, as well as a match against the French Barbarians on November 17.

Wallabies' 32-man squad for 2016 Spring Tour: Allan Alaalatoa, Rory Arnold, Adam Coleman, Quade Cooper, Kane Douglas, Scott Fardy, Israel Folau, Bernard Foley, Nick Frisby, Will Genia, Kyle Godwin, James Hanson, Dane Haylett-Petty, Reece Hodge, Michael Hooper, Sekope Kepu, Marika Koroibete, Tevita Kuridrani, Tolu Latu, Sean McMahon, Stephen Moore (captain), Dean Mumm, Sefanaia Naivalu, Nick Phipps, David Pocock, Tom Robertson, Rob Simmons, Scott Sio, Will Skelton, Henry Speight, James Slipper, Lopeti Timani

Wallabies 2016 Spring Tour schedule: v Wales (November 6); v Scotland, November 13; v France, November 20; v Ireland, November 27; v England, December 4
