Lawrence leads Masters medal haul

Byron Bay’s Glen Lawrence was in the medals at the Australian Masters surf titles at Kurrawa last week.

In extremely challengingly conditions, Glen won gold in the 45-49 years rescue tube race, silver in the surf race and teamed up with Geoff Brodin to win silver in the board rescue.

With fewer than 20 competitors in the Masters events, Byron Bay won seven medals including Glen’s three.

Other medallists were Heli Murray, who won bronze in the 40-44 rescue tube and, teaming up with Jo Kay, silver in the board rescue.

In the beach events, Helen Jarvis won silver in the beach flags, while Paul Pattison won silver in his age group beach sprint.
