Kyuss crowned king of the waves

RIDING high on two perfect 10-point waves the day before, Byron Bay surfing prodigy, Kyuss King, 11, took out the NSW under 12 title in a hotly-contested final at Boomerang Beach last Sunday.

Speaking about his two perfect rides, Kyuss said he had felt pretty confident after the first 10 and thought “yes I want to do this again, the first one I did a few snaps and a cutty and an end section turn, so I had to top that”.

“I did three huge turns and a floater and thought yeah I got another one. I've never done it before. I feel really, really good. I'm stoked I want to do it all again,” he said.

Far North Coast surfers performed with distinction at the titles with Zac Wightman from Lennox Head winning the under 14 title and Tommy Boucat from Ocean Shores getting a second placing in the under 18s.

However, Boucat did manage a perfect 10 winning him the wave-of-the-day award.
