Koala named after Bluesfest star
IRISH Mythen is an Irish-born, Canadian contemporary folk singer-songwriter.
Her fame around the Northern Rivers has grown so much that Bluesfest will name a koala at Tyagarah Tea Tree Parklands after her this April, she confirmed.
"I am coming to Bluesfest with new songs, some new collaborations on stage, and I am very very proud that they've named a koala after me," she said.
"(As part of) Their koala breeding program, that is bringing koalas back to the area, they have named a koala after me, and apparently she's a five-week old joey and I'm going to meet my namesake while I'm there.
"Apparently they have a Mavis Staple and now also an Irish Mythen. I feel like I won a Grammy!" she said.
Mythen has been gathering awards and accolades since her last visit: she won Songwriter of the Year for the tune Gypsy Dancer, and was was nominated for Artist of the Year at the International Folk Music Awards.
At Bluesfest, Tyagarah, April 13-17.
