Koala kicks off

SOUTH Molle Island is one of those fabulous Whitsunday dream islands that often gets overlooked for its bigger, brighter marketing stars … but that's all about to change.

South Molle is about to open the doors to a “little piece of Bali”- the fabulous new Koala Adventure Island Resort is getting the finishing touches before its grand opening on March 26.

The resort's four styles of accommodation will feature Balinese-inspired massage beds, bamboo day beds and thatched pergolas along the beach and foreshore area.

And while the marketing says it's for “18-plus” patrons, I wouldn't go too far on the plus end … this one, I feel, will be all about young people having a kick-back time, with anyone over 30 being looked at like a fossil.

Good on 'em. The Whitsundays has a load of great accommodation for the older generation, so it's about time the Y and I Gen got a look in.

“This is all about kicking back and having fun with like-minded people,” says Koala Resort Management's managing director Craig Ross.

“We want guests to feel as if they are on a tropical island hideaway - except they won't have to travel far to get that feeling.”

■ Bookings will be hot, given that the rooms start at a measly $49, so get your gang together and call 1800 466 444 or visit
