Kettlebell craze on the boil

RATHER than drooling over Gerard Butler's chiselled abs, or pining for Jennifer Aniston's perfect physique, build the body yourself with the latest fitness craze sweeping Hollywood - KettleWorX.

The kettlebell 30-minute workout is shaping up to be a popular alternative for busy people because it burns more calories in less time.

The program is offered at Goodlife Health Clubs including Maroochydore.

"The classes are taking the club by storm," general manager Frankie Winter said.

"They've been really well- received. It's so different to anything our members have done before."

Kettlebell training uses aerobic and anaerobic systems and is tailored to all levels of fitness.

Recent studies have shown participants increased their core strength by 70%.

KettleWorX fast facts

  • Participants burn 20.2 calories a minute, the only other workout to burn that many calories is cross country skiing uphill at a fast pace.
  • Two consecutive 30 minute sessions can burn 820 calories, a burn rate of 41% of the daily recommended calorie intake of 2000 calories.
