Joel Dinsdale's mum: Please keep Joel in your thoughts

THE family of a 17-year-old Joel Dinsdale who remains in a critical condition in Townsville General Hospital has thanked the community for its support.

The Mackay motocross star was involved in a single-car crash on the Bruce Hwy at St Lawrence early Tuesday morning.

He was airlifted by rescue helicopter to Mackay Base Hospital and later transferred to Townsville.

It is believed he was on his way to Brisbane to compete in the second round of the Sunshine State Motocross Series, being held this weekend.

A hospital spokeswoman said last night he was in a critical but stable condition.

"On behalf of Joel's family I would like to thank the community for all their good wishes and expressions of support during this difficult time," his mother, Peta Dinsdale, said yesterday.

"Joel is currently in the Townsville hospital and I would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who are caring for him.

"Thank you again and please keep Joel in your thoughts and prayers."

Steve Eden, who is involved in the motocross community and helped organised a motocross event in memory of Joel's father, Steve, said the teen was well-known among motocross riders.

"He has a lot of natural talent," Mr Eden said. "He's a tough bugger."

He wished the family all the best and hoped Joel would have a speedy recovery. "Hang in there," he said.

Messages of community support were also flowing on Facebook.

"Thinking of all the family and friends at this terrible time," Nola Lloyd said.

Melody Jane Craig said the news of Joel brought tears to her eyes.
