Style makeover for future princess

DESPITE coming from middle class stock, Kate Middleton has generally kept her fashion style safe and neutral but her royal engagement has people wondering – will she be a trend-setting queen?

The 28-year-old has been a conservative dresser since her teens with only a few fashion faux pas – notably her roller disco hot pants and sequined top outfit for a 2008 charity event.

But fashion commentators have started to wonder – can the UK’s future Queen become a style icon?

House of Amy owner Amy Winks said Kate’s style was minimalist and “city chic”.

Ms Winks said Kate was likely to change her fashion sense as she adapts to the new role.

“I don’t think she will go over the top but I’d say that she would be expected to wear more “suity”, finished pieces,” Ms Winks said.

Ms Winks said Kate would not be a “traditional bride” and she predicted the wedding dress could be simple and halter neck to show off her beautiful shoulders.

Gaye’s Hair Fashions owner Gaye Anderson said Ipswich women rushed to mimic Lady Di’s amazing haircuts but Kate’s long brunette locks were unlikely to spur the same reaction.

“I think Kate is stunning, I think she’s beautiful and I think her hair is fantastic, but I think it is just normal,” Mrs Anderson said.

“Diana had amazing precision-line hair cuts.”
