UPDATE 3.45PM: THE rock star of federal politics has wrapped up her Ipswich visit.
Given the number of people lining up for a selfie with her there is no denying Julie Bishop's pulling power.
Ms Bishop, who also moonlights as the nation's Foreign Minister, spent the day visiting various events and business alongside LNP Blair candidate Teresa Harding.
First stop was Willowbank Raceway where Ms Bishop got up and close with personal with a top fuel dragster ahead of the Winternationals this weekend.
Ms Bishop did not hesitate in jumping into the dragster which can reach more than 500km per hour in less than four seconds.
But unfortunately for Ms Bishop, who admitted she was a car enthusiast, the owner's of the dragster would not let her take it for a spin down the track.
"I am delighted I got to visit the raceway because it is an indication of community strength and spirit," she said.
"It also showed how a community like Ipswich can attract a tourist event of a national and international standard like this."
Next stop on tour was Ipswich's renowned innovation hub - Fire Station 101.
Ms Bishop said she was highly impressed at the space and the talented people who utilise the venue each day.
"This aligns with the government's agenda promoting innovation, science and technology," she said.
"Our policy is about supporting start ups and new ideas and helping people them bring them to market.
"Fire Station 101 absolutely exemplifies what we are talking about as a government.
"Our economy is in transition . . . we have to embrace technology as our economy transitions from traditional areas to new industries and jobs, some of which probably have not even been thought of yet."
Ms Bishop was full of praise for Ms Harding saying she would make a fantastic representative for the people of Blair on the federal stage.
She said she had not met a more passionate person
"I worked with Teresa in 2013 when she ran and I was deeply impressed with her as a candidate then, so I am delighted to be back here in 2016 supporting her again," she said.
"She is passionate, committed and really understands local issues.
"In Canberra we see her as the ideal choice for Blair because she is so focused and committed to local issues, and so deeply engaged in the community.
"We think she is a star candidate."
