Journo taps into inner glamazon to take tilt at show tiltle

THERE'S no time for hair and make-up for Jane Lillingstone when she gets up at 4am every day to read the news bulletins for radio stations Hot 91 and Zinc 96.

But when the 25-year-old unleashes her inner "glamazon" and a long-held passion for shows she is unstoppable.

After wowing judges at the Maleny Showgirl title, Ms Lillingstone went on to win the regional competition on Saturday night, beating eight entrants for the Miss Near North Coast crown.

She will now represent the region at the state finals from August 7 during the Brisbane Ekka.

Ms Lillingstone was a contender for Miss Queensland Showgirl last year after being named Miss South East Queensland.

She said she attended every show as a youngster in Melbourne and watched on proudly as her older brother exhibited cattle, but didn't know of the existence of the showgirl competition until she moved to the Gold Coast.

Her dream to become a journalist brought her to the Sunshine Coast, where she has deep family connections in the hinterland.

"My great grandfather came out to Maleny in 1883 with his wife and young baby and he established the Obi Obi sawmill," she said.

Ms Lillingstone said she was still nervous at the thought of meeting some of her role models, including Queensland Governor Penelope Wensley and Queensland's first parliamentary speaker Fiona Simpson next month.
