Woman swept into floodwaters dies

A WOMAN has died after being swept away in floodwaters in Far North Queensland.

Emergency services were called to the incident at Josephine Falls at Innisfail on Tuesday afternoon following reports that a woman had been washed downstream in floodwaters..

A police spokesman said the female's body was found in a creek about 7.25pm after she was washed away in a swimming hole.

Due to dangerous conditions of flash flooding no identification could be made until tomorrow morning and recovery efforts will start at first light.

Police said the woman had been with a group of people.

It comes after heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms swept through Far North Queensland.
