Joplin tribute in Full Tilt Janis
THE queen of psychedelic soul is visiting the Bay this week with Full Tilt Janis, the Australian Janis Joplin Tribute Show.
Janis Joplin was an American singer considered the premier female blues vocalist of the 1960s.
Her raw, powerful and uninhibited singing style, combined with her turbulent and emotional lifestyle, made her one of the biggest female stars in her lifetime.
Rolling Stone ranked Joplin number 46 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time in 2004 and number 28 on its 2008 list of 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
She died of a drug overdose in 1970 after releasing only four albums.
Singer Melissa Jubb brings Joplin's music and style to life with a song list that includes classics such as Piece of My Heart, Move Over, Turtle Blues, I Need a Man to Love and more.
Full Tilt Janis performed to standing ovations at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.
At the Byron Theatre this Saturday at 7.30pm. $30.
