Rockhampton father of three loses 48kg in five months

IT WAS a basketball game that gave Joe Lewis the wake-up call he desperately needed.

"I only lasted about a minute," the Rockhampton father-of-three told The Morning Bulletin on Thursday.

"I was puffed for hours after. I didn't realise just how unfit I was."

Now, the 32-year-old can run 10km in just over an hour.

In five months, Joe has lost an amazing 48kg.

Joe said his journey started when he decided to re-join the Rockhampton Fitness Centre on East St.

With a good training program, staff support and a new diet, Joe said he was seeing results in just weeks.

"I was very sore for the first week; I could barely move," he said.

"But after that I could see the results and I was full of motivation.

"I had an old photo of me on the fridge. Every time I would go to the fridge I would see it and that would egg me on."

But he didn't just change physically.

"It changed me mentally as well," he said. "I used to be a negative person but now I'm positive."

Joe said he loved being able to play with his kids again and inspiring others.

His advice to others hoping to transform their life is "just do it".

"Starting is the hardest," he said.

"Don't make excuses. Anyone can do it."

Joe said he has just 2kg to go before he reaches his goal weight.

"This is the new me."
