Queensland coal mine to slash 100 jobs

THERE is more bad news for the region's mine workers.

Operator Glencore has confirmed further job losses from its Clermont open cut coal mine.

It is believed that 100 positions will be cut from the mine by October this year.

About 600 workers will remain at the site.

"We are facing increasingly difficult times due to a combination of continued low coal prices and a resilient Australian dollar...unfortunately we are not immune to these conditions," Glencore said in a statement.

"When we acquired our stake in Clermont in June and took over operations we said that we would be reviewing operations as part of the integration process."

Glencore bought Rio Tinto's 50% stake for more than $1 billion in June this year.
