Job best for border residents: Provest

THE NSW government is looking to recruit a Cross Border Commissioner and Tweed MP Geoff Provest has his fingers crossed the $200,000 salary job will go to a Tweed resident.

The announcement comes just weeks after the NSW and Queensland premiers signed a cross border memorandum to foster a better relationship and smooth cross border issues.

Mr Provest said people living on the border understood the confusion, inconvenience and financial disadvantage of living on state lines.

"If someone for the Tweed were to be the successful applicant, the prior local knowledge would be a real bonus," Mr Provest said.

The successful applicant will need experience in advanced public policy and management skills.

Applications close October 16.
