Jets star flies out for German club meeting

NEWCASTLE Jets goalkeeper Mark Birighitti could join fellow Australian Robbie Kruse at Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen after it was confirmed he had flown to meet key club representatives in Germany.

The 22-year-old Perth-born stopper left the country on Sunday after the Jets' 5-0 hammering of Wellington Phoenix.

He was on the bench for that game after being dropped in favour of Ben Kennedy following two howlers in the loss to Central Coast Mariners in round 23.

Birighitti was also involved in a training ground spat with teammate Tyler Regan earlier this month, which left the defender with a bloodied face.

He is set to return to Australia on Saturday, linking up with teammates in Perth for the important clash against the Glory at nib Stadium on Sunday.

Leverkusen has lost eight of its past nine Bundesliga games.
