Jeronimo leads charge with double

FORMER Brisbane Roar star Michael Zullo celebrated his return to top-flight Australian football in fine style, setting up two goals in Adelaide United's 3-1 victory over Perth at Coopers Stadium yesterday.

In a game where an extraordinary 11 yellow cards and two red cards were handed out, Zullo was a crucial link from the defensive line in a re-vamped Reds attack.

Indeed, the Adelaide outfit looked to be comfortable with the attacking flair introduced from new Spanish coach Joesp Gombau.

Despite Nigel Boogaard and new recruit Isaias Sanchez being marched out of the game in the second half, the Glory showed a lack of imagination in attack against a nine-man opposition.

Jeronimo Neumann (pictured) scored both the Reds' first two goals, before Fabio Ferreira all but decided the game, making it 3-1 after 64 minutes.

Neumann's first came courtesy of a nice cross from Daniel Bowles after an impressive run at the back by Zullo.

Perth equalised just one minute later through a Ryo Nagai header, before Neumann gave his team the lead after 25 minutes, capitalising on a fumble by Glory 'keeper Danny Vukovic.

Zullo's spot-on cross allowed Ferreira to net the third goal for the hosts.

The win was a fillip for the recently appointed Gombau, who said the players are enjoying his new attacking style.
