AROUND Lismore there have been a few raised eyebrows at the sight of Julie Cowan.
"She bought a Jeep."
No, she didn't. Julie won a Jeep.
She was victorious in the Jeep Dealers' NRL football tipping competition and is now the proud owner of a new Compass.
The competition was run across APN publications in Queensland and Northern New South Wales, with Julie putting her victory down to "beginner's luck".
"I just picked whichever names sounded good, but I always took Manly Sea Eagles," she said.
Having just released the new Grand Cherokee, the brand renowned for his off-road prowess is kicking plenty of goals.
During July, Jeep sold more than 1000 in a month for the first time.
The Grand Cherokee snared the number one spot in the large SUV market with 14.5% market share.
And that share is likely to get bigger. The smaller new mid-size Jeep Cherokee is forecast to arrive in the second quarter of next year.
Styling of the Cherokee has already had the motoring world talking with a redesigned seven-slat grille taking pride of place. Impressive fuel economy is being claimed, with a three engine line-up including a 2.4-litre four-cylinder and a 3.2-litre V6. There will also be a diesel for the Australian market - more details will be available closer to launch.
The new Cherokee will also have a nine-speed automatic gearbox across the range.
Jeep will also deliver the Wrangler Polar and Dragon special edition models early next year. While prices are yet to be revealed, it will feature a new front grille with black accents, hard spare-tyre cover, body-colour hardtop, aggressive 18-inch polished gloss black alloy wheels, plus polar white interior finishes.
It will be powered by either a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel or 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 petrol engine.
