Japanese company Iwasaki Group to invest in Queensland beef

A NEW herd of wagyu cattle may soon be introduced to Yeppoon, with Iwasaki Group president Yoshitaro Iwasaki expressing interest in a project to start farming wagyu beef.

Mr Iwasaki's proposals would aim to leverage off the Queensland beef industry's reputation in the global market.

Premier Campbell Newman said he was extremely supportive of Mr Iwasaki's proposal to join the wagyu beef industry in Queensland.

"Japan is a major producer of wagyu beef and I welcome Mr Iwasaki's proposed investment in our State," he said.

"Not only should his proposals bring new skills, expertise, bloodlines and technologies to Queensland, but it fits well with our overarching commitment to double farm gate production by 2040.

"The Government will take an active role in connecting Mr Iwasaki with leaders in the Queensland cattle industry who I'm certain will be interested in exploring his proposals further."

Mr Iwasaki was negotiating with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.
