Jamie Gao murder: Roger Rogerson, Glen McNamara guilty

TWO former police detectives Roger Rogerson and Glen McNamara have been found guilty of murdering Sydney student Jamie Gao during a drug deal.

Rogerson, 75, and McNamara, 57, were each accused of planning and shooting Gao, on May 20, 2014, before dumping his body into waters off Cronulla the day after.

The drug deal was apparently worth $3 million.

Both pleaded not guilty.

During the trial, each denied pulling the trigger and blamed the other.

In May, prosecutors described the detectives' version of events as "far-fetched and unbelievable".

The court heard McNamara and Rogerson made a pact to kill Gao, and steal almost 3kg of the drug ice.

Prosecutor Christopher Maxwell QC told the jury how McNamara's boat was taken out of storage the day before the shooting so they could "make Jamie Gao disappear".

Mr Maxwell said the boat was used to dump the body at sea, then returned to storage.

McNamara had previously claimed that Rogerson killed Mr Gao, then made threats against him and his family.

Rogerson claimed he found Gao dead then pulled a gun on McNamara.

"Jamie Gao shot himself twice in a struggle?" Mr Maxwell asked at the time, adding: "It never happened like that".

"It is far-fetched and unbelievable."
