HORTICULTURALIST and television personality Jamie Durie will be putting his green thumbs to work on Hayman Island.

Hayman, Australia’s idyllic nature island destination in the Whitsundays, has engaged the award-winning landscape designer to rejuvenate and refresh the beautiful garden surrounds of the acclaimed resort.

Mr Durie will be drawing on his passion for the outdoors and a deep connection with nature and its many qualities to guide him in recreating the breathtaking and tranquil Hayman garden landscape setting.

Earlier this year the resort was hit hard by cyclones Anthony and Yasi, forcing the temporary closure of the resort until the end of July.

An excited group of Hayman team members who chose to remain on the island throughout the closure will join Jamie and his award-winning design studio, Durie Design, to assist with the project – a significant rebirth of the spectacular gardens.

Head of hotel investments for Mulpha Australia and managing director for Hayman, Lloyd Donaldson, said he was delighted to have Jamie Durie involved in the design and evolving stages of the resort gardens.

“It is wonderful to have a highly respected and talented professional in Jamie bringing his incredible energy and immense knowledge and expertise to Hayman, which over many years has been acknowledged as one of the top resorts of the world,” Mr Donaldson said.

Mr Durie said he was proud to be involved with one of Australia’s most prestigious and iconic resorts.

“Over the years I have visited Hayman many times and have always been in awe of its natural beauty.

"Designing for Hayman certainly won’t feel like work for me – it will be an honour, privilege and pleasure to design for Hayman.

“And with the support of the owners, management team and staff on the island, my team at Durie Design and I are committed to not just rejuvenating the existing gardens, but offering six new exciting outdoor destinations for the guests to enjoy in Hayman’s classic, sophisticated, yet understated, style,” he said.

Mr Durie is the author of eight best-selling garden design books, including The Outdoor Room, and Australian television programs such as Australia’s Best Backyards, Backyard Blitz and The Block.

Hayman will re-open on August 1and is accepting new reservations arriving from this date.
