Man left by road for an hour after alleged hit and run

A MAN lay seriously injured by the road for about an hour after an alleged hit and run at Tweed Heads.

Police said the 26-year-old Banora Point man was hit by a Toyota Hilux while walking alongside the Kennedy Drive off-ramp for the Pacific Highway about 5.30am yesterday.

The Hilux kept going and the man lay there until being found by a passer by an hour later.

He was taken to Gold Coast Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

 

A 32-year-old man later came into the Tweed Heads police station about 11.30an and was charged with dangerous driving cause grievous bodily harm, fail to stop and render assistance, and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

The man, from Tweed Heads, was released on bail and is expected to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on December 1.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
