A DATE with actor Idris Elba is going to become reality for one lucky fan.

The British film and television star, who was in the country last year to film Thor: Ragnarok, is offering up a romantic Valentine's Day date including 'the most delicious meal of your life' to help raise funds for charity.

In a humorous video posted to his Facebook page, which has already been viewed more than 2.7 million times, Elba promises his lucky date can 'pound' his yams  and order 'whatever you want' for dessert.

To enter, fans must go to his Omaze campaign page and donate to WE Can Lead, a charity which funds education and leadership opportunities for girls in Africa.

The main prize includes flights to the mystery date location for the winner and a friend, a dinner date with Elba at his favourite restaurant and accommodation in a four-star hotel.

Other secondary prizes which will be given away include signed merchandise, tickets to the premiere of Elba's upcoming film The Dark Tower and a digital thank-you card.

According to the campaign's terms and conditions, Australians are not excluded from entering but need to be at least 13 years old, have a valid passport and be able to travel to the experience location on or around February 28.

Entries close on Valentine's Day.
