"I did what I did for Marcia" - Thanks to the SES volunteers

SES Coffs Harbour unit controller Bill Roffey says local residents deserve to feel pride at their own response to the extreme weather event of the past few days.

"Can you please pass on our thanks to the people of Coffs Harbour (and region) for helping themselves," Bill said.

"From the first alert we had that the area could be in for some rough stuff, they were all out there preparing just in case.

"There was a great response and that makes our job a bit easier."

In return, the cool, calm and collected professionalism of the volunteers in orange was again to the fore.

The real possibility of Tropical Cyclone Marcia heading towards the Mid North Coast and wreaking havoc certainly threw a scare into the local community and while it eventually petered out into a low depression on Saturday ... one day we may not be so lucky.

"We had our share of things to do but only a couple of final jobs on Sunday morning," Bill revealed.

"The rest of Sunday is a rest day and then the final clean-up begins.

"On Monday it's out to collect sandbags from the drops and public points and with a few things straightened, everything should be back to normal."

Oh, and one more thing ...

If anyone is looking to dispose of sand, use what you need in the garden but help the SES by bringing the rest back to Brelsford Park.

The supply needs to be ready for the next emergency (whenever it threatens) and the assistance will be much appreciated.
