Huge V8 weekend starts with quick lesson on the track
THE V8 Supercars event will continue its long association with Ipswich's young motor racing fans this week.
More than 1000 Ipswich school children will be given the opportunity to apply their classroom lessons to the real world through the Students on Track program, which invites students out to Queensland Raceway in the lead-up to the big weekend of racing.
Students will have access to The Paddock in order to allow them to get into the pits and see various motor racing and media careers in action.
Among the practical lessons for Ipswich kids is the Junior Press Conference, where students are given the chance to play journalist and interview drivers in a 30-minute press conference that is conducted in the same location as the real-life version.
Safety is also an important part of the learning schedule, with students also taking part in the V8 Supersafe program as part of the day.
The Students on Track program has been running for several years, with 18060 students - including 1286 from Ipswich - taking part across Australia and NZ last year.
Ipswich students will hit the Willowbank track on Friday, July 31.
