How does $5m of wine disappear into thin air?
MORE than $5 million of prestige wine has gone missing from the Hunter region in New South Wales.
Police are appealing for information after dozens of wine collections held by storage firm Wine Investment Services disappeared after the business went into receivership in 2013.
Other business assets were surrendered to the receivers but the wine could not be found, despite inquiries by the owners, liquidators and police.
Detectives from the NSW Fraud and Cybercrime Squad searched a unit in Newcastle in March and seized documents and electronic storage devices, but the wine remains at large.
"In particular, (police) would like to speak with anyone who may have purchased, or has been approached to purchase, collectable or vintage wines, including Penfolds Grange, varieties of Henschke, Torbreck, and Chris Ringland/Three Rivers," NSW Police said in a statement.
