Hop on the bus if you plan a drink

The new Byron Bay night shuttle bus service known as ‘Nightrider’ is now operating on Friday and Saturday nights.

An initiative of the Byron Liquor Accord, ‘Nightrider’ is aimed at cutting the high incidence of drink-driving in the town.

It operates from 7 pm to 4 pm between the CBD, Sunrise Beach, Suffolk Park, Byron Hills, Baywood Chase and Lilli Pilli with the cost of a one-way trip $3.

People using the service have to pre-purchase tickets from hotels, nightclubs and bottle shops in the town and at Suffolk Park and Sunrise.

A Liquor Accord spokesperson said only a small number of restaurants were members of the group, but hopefully more would join.

Anyone wanting to use the ‘Nightrider’ service can call 0419848875 between 7pm and 4 am on Fridays and Saturdays to arrange a pick up.

Patrons of participating venues can also ask security or management to contact the driver.
