JAMES Courtney has become the first driver since Jamie Whincup in 2008-09 to claim back-to-back Sunday victories in the Clipsal 500.
The Holden Racing Team driver was ecstatic after holding off Shane van Gisbergen in a dogfight over the closing stages.
"That was epic. The strategy, the way it played out - we dropped back in the field and had to charge through," Courtney said.
"Shane had a younger set of tyres and I had to do everything to keep him behind me. Thank God I pulled it off."
The win saw Courtney finish on top of the series standings, following victories by Whincup and Fabian Coulthard in the two races on Saturday.
Holden drivers held the top six spots overall, with Mark Winterbottom the first Ford man in seventh spot and Rick Kelly leading the way for Nissan in eighth.
Standings: 1: Courtney 258, 2: Coulthard 241, 3: Garth Tander 237, 4: van Gisbergen 222, 5: Whincup 216, 6: Craig Lowndes 208.
