Robert Hughes will plead not guilty to child sex charges

FORMER Hey Dad! star Robert Hughes will plead not guilty to a string of child sex charges when he fronts court later this week, his lawyer has announced.

The 64-year-old actor, who was extradited from the UK last year, is accused of indecently assaulting five girls during his time on the popular family show more than 20 years ago.

He fronted the Sydney District Court this week where he chose to forego a committal hearing.

Instead, the case will return to court on Friday when, according to his lawyer Greg Walsh, Mr Hughes will plead not guilty to all charges.

Mr Walsh told reporters outside court that Mr Hughes maintained his innocence and hoped to stand trial before the end of the year.
