'Tough ask' for Bluedogs as Sharks look for top three finish

LENNOX Head has a golden opportunity to tighten its grip on a top three finish, when they host a depleted Bangalow tonight in Far North Coast premier league soccer.

The Sharks currently share the third rung on the ladder with Lismore Workers, but with a game in hand, a win tonight could prove crucial to their top three hopes.

With a full strength side in good form and on home soil, the Sharks will start as hot favourites against a young Bangalow outfit still looking for its first win.

And their hopes of breaking the ice tonight will not be helped by the absence of defenders Scott Fuller and Mark Curran, along with seasoned midfielder Victor Pires.

With several possible replacements also unavailable, Bluedogs coach Neil Fuller admitted it would be a tough ask.

"We're a bit thin at the moment, it'll be a real test of our depth," Fuller said.

"We know Lennox are a dangerous, attacking side so we will need to play a careful, defensive game" Fuller said.

The Bluedogs will need big games from their more experienced players, Josh Tidswell in goals and Taha Belaazziz up front, but on paper they don't look to have the squad to contain a free scoring Lennox.

The league's top scorer Byron Milne will spearhead the Sharks attack, combined with Aryan Freriechs and Gus McDonnell, who are all in good form.

With classy midfielder Ihsan Sauran looking to provide the trio with some quality ball, Bangalow will be kept busy in defence and look most likely to score on the counter.

But with Joel Rudgley now marshalling the Sharks backline, they will be hard to break down in a match that could become a lop sided affair.

"Complacency is our biggest problem" Sharks coach Troy Taylor said.

"We'll have to maintain our focus on performance, and have been working on breaking down a side defending in their own half, so we're ready to go."

Kick off is 8pm.
