Harry Healy lays everybody low with love song on The Voice

FORMER Northern Rivers singer Harry Healy nabbed a coveted spot on The Voice last night.

The 56-year-old attracted the attention of coaches Joel Madden, Kylie Minogue and will.i.am with his seasoned voice.

"I couldn't have my back turned to a pro," said will.i.am.

"You're somebody at the level of a Sting, I felt there was a wizard there, a wizard going magic."

Mr Healy chose to go with Madden, who has been with The Voice Australia for the past three seasons and described Healy's voice as "one of those voices that's lived".

"Joel seems like a nice guy. It should be fun working with him," Healy told APN.

"I figured that we might have the same sort of background."

Mr Healy had a regular Tuesday night gig at the Great Northern Hotel for 14 years and was a member of the '80s covers band Under Rapz with Mi-Sex founder Steve Gilpin.

He hopes the exposure from the show will help to raise his profile in Melbourne, where he has been building a local profile since moving south nearly a year ago.

"Moving to Melbourne, I had to start at the bottom (of the local music scene) again," he said.

"I had to go around (to get gigs) and most of the people call me 'Harry Who'.

"I hope it opens up doors so that I can record some of the songs that I have properly, more professionally, and maybe get in contact with really good producers."

Once the blind auditions are finished, Healy and the other selected singers who make up the four celebrity coaches' teams will have to compete in the battle rounds.

"I feel like because of my experience and my age I personally get on with every

body," Healy said.

"It's all up to the judges. It's their call. All you can do is just get up there and do your best."
