Is half an hour exercise a day enough?

WILLOWS Health and Lifestyle Centre managing director Troy Morgan believes Australian's are going to have to make drastic cultural changes in regards to thoughts on obesity.

His comments come after the Australia's National Health and Medical Research Council suggested the recommended daily activity recommendation of 30 minutes may need to be doubled.

Mr Morgan said the suggestion was a response to the nation's intake of fatty foods.

"At the moment 30 minutes exercise is not enough for the diets of Australians," he said.

He said he was scared the 60 minutes would push more people away from exercising.

Instead of exercising for a block of 60 minutes, Mr Morgan suggested Australian's try to fit in more unplanned exercise.

"You can have periods of work where you stand up at your desk more," he said.

"Get an earpiece and stand up and walk around while you're talking on the phone."

He also suggested parking a little bit further than usual for work and walking a little more.

"Any exercise is a good thing."
