Hairdresser’s incredible shipping container transformation
Townsville hairdresser Jackie Foley loves her work and now she also loves her workplace.
Ms Foley has relocated her business, Short Back and Sides, into a converted shipping container in Ingham Rd and at first wasn't quite sure about the move.
"When my parents first showed me the sad shipping container, I couldn't imagine it would work, it was in a dreadful state," Ms Foley said.
"But it has come up a treat, I love it. All of my clients who have come from my old place to here say this is so much nicer."
Ms Foley previously operated from premises next door.
The conversion of the shipping container has been under way for some time and with the unfolding of the coronavirus pandemic she was concerned about being able to operate at all.
"I thought I would be one of the many told to close up shop, even before I got to open, but no, hairdressers were told to keep working," Ms Foley said.
"I am taking all precautions as recommended. My customers are immediately directed to the hand basin to wash their hands. They are very understanding and appreciative of my face mask and gloves.
"I also only have one person in the salon at a time and I am lucky to have an undercover open area just outside for those waiting and keeping their distance."
Ms Foley is an award-winning stylist catering to men and women.
