Gun used in sports club robbery

POLICE have released a description of a masked man who robbed the Kirra Sports Club early this morning.

The man, who was armed with a handgun, attacked a manager who was opening the front doors of the club at around 6am and forced him upstairs to a safe.

After threatening the manager to open the safe, the gunman bound the manager.

The man escaped on foot with the club’s weekend takings.

The man was described as 175-180cm tall with a solid build wearing a black balaclava, black jacket with a grey hood, black track suit pants with a thin white stripe on the side, white and blue gloves and white runners.

Club president Glenn Wright said the manager was “very shaken” but uninjured by the ordeal.

“It does make me angry with this spate of armed robberies on the coast at the moment,” Mr Wright said.

Police were provided with CCTV footage from the club and were doorknocking residents in the area.

Anyone with information about the Kirra Sports Club robbery should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
