Grandmother traps thief with chair, husband calls police
RANSACKING the homes of the elderly has become a sport for petty Sydney criminals but one accused thief picked the wrong grandparents to mess with on Tuesday.
A 68-year-old woman was sleeping next to her husband when she woke to the sound of her fridge door opening.
In the kitchen, she allegedly found a young man crouched down in front of the fridge, with her television set beside him.
The quick-thinking retiree grabbed a chair, put it over him and stood on top of it while her husband called the police.
The 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated break and enter and committing a serious indictable offence.
He was granted bail and will appear in Hornsby local court on Wednesday, May 15.
