Gold Coast Thelma and Louise botch their escape

Trevor Veale

A DARING duo's escape plan was foiled after they accelerated quickly straight toward a police car in stolen vehicle yesterday.

The two women, who have now been arrested, crashed the car shortly after 3am.

Before the crash police noticed a 4WD and a car acting suspiciously at the rear of a pizza store on the Gold Coast Highway at Burleigh Heads.

Both vehicles fled the scene when police attempted the intercept them.

Police said a short time later a stationary marked police vehicle observed the same car, which was confirmed as stolen, in the car park of a Gold Coast Hwy restaurant at Burleigh Heads.

Police allege the vehicle accelerated towards the police car before narrowly missing it, mounting the gutter and striking the embankment.

Two 26-year-old women from Alexandra Hills and Mountain Creek are currently assisting police with their inquiries.

Investigations are continuing.
