DEAN Morcombe is ready for a fight.
The older brother of Daniel Morcombe will strap on the boxing gloves for his first official bout at a corporate fight night at The Events Centre, Caloundra, on July 13.
There will be a room full of supporters, but Dean won't be seeing his parents, child safety crusaders Bruce and Denise, in the crowd.
"They don't want to come down, they're afraid I'll break my nose," the 26-year-old said.
Tradies, dentists, lawyers and business owners will be among those fighting it out to raise money for melanoma patients and the charity SunnyKids.
For most of them, it will be their first time in the boxing ring.
They have been training for the past four weeks, and had their first sparring session at Maroochydore's Core Strength Fitness under the watchful eye of coach and promoter Rob Fogarty.
Dean has been training six days a week since finding out about the bout.
"I needed a goal to get fit, and this was it. So far I've lost three kilos and my fitness has improved plenty," he said.
Mooloolaba restaurant Hot Pipis owner Jo Murray will also lace up the gloves for the first time.
"It's something I'd never thought about until it came up," she said. "Then I thought it would be fun to do."
Anyone interested in purchasing a ticket or table for the event can call Mr Fogarty on 0407 112 410.
