Gladstone harbour bund wall review report overdue

THE report from a Federal Government review of a failed bund wall on the controversial Western Basin dredging project in Gladstone Harbour is a week overdue.

Environment Minister Greg Hunt began the review earlier this year, after a string of revelations about the leaking bund wall in recent months.

The review, which was originally meant to be completed at the end of March, was granted an extension until the end of April, but seven days on it has not been released publicly.

A spokesman for Mr Hunt said the report had not been handed to the Minister's office, but he could not clarify whether it had been completed, or when it would be.

The spokesman also did not respond to questions on whether the report would be released in full to the public, or when.

To date, the review has taken submissions from a range of environmental groups and the dredging project proponent, Gladstone Ports Corporation.

While the port has repeatedly denied any links between the dredging project and a 2011 fish disease outbreak which coincided with the project, several submissions have disputed the claim.

Other submitters to the review have also called on the review panel, led by senior CSIRO executives and a former Canberra bureaucrat, to ensure people were held accountable for any failures during the project or its monitoring.
