Girl hit by car

A 16-year-old girl hit by a car in Ewingsdale Road, Byron Bay, early on New Year’s Day was still in a critical but stable condition in the Gold Coast Hospital early this week.

Police said the girl had apparently run on to the road shortly after midnight and was struck by a car driven by a Queensland man.

They said the man had swerved to try to miss the girl, who sustained serious injuries and who was taken to Byron Bay Hospital before being transferred to the Gold Coast Hospital.

The incident is being investigated by the Ballina Crash Investigation Unit.
