Program helps students hit the road in logistics industry

THE Fraser Coast Regional Council has thrown its support behind the award-winning School to Work Strategy GenR8.

"The program, supported by the Queensland Trucking Association, is the preferred recruitment strategy for their Transport and Logistics Industry," councillor Robert Garland said.

GenR8, launched by the Department of Education and Training, is the first industry-endorsed and department-driven School to Work Transition Strategy for current Year 12 students.

"Under the program, Year 12 students will learn from their experience as part of the logistics industry," Cr Garland said.

"Participating students complete a nationally-recognised qualification - Certificate II in Logistics, obtain four credit points towards their Queensland Certificate of Education as well as receive 20 days of work placement."

Logistics covers a wide variety of jobs such as truck and forklift drivers, gantry-crane operators as well as warehousing and administration.

"What sets the GenR8 program apart from traditional vocational education programs in schools is the support, commitment and dedication from local employers including Fraser Coast Regional Council, Agricon Products, Hyne Timber, Richers Transport, Sun City Wholesale Distributors, Cornwall Logging and DTM Timber."

Applicants are now being shortlisted for a program scheduled to start on March 22.
