Gates to Paradise Lagoons Campdraft to open today
ONE of Central Queensland's most iconic events kicks off today as the region gears up for the 2015 Paradise Lagoons Campdraft.
The world-class complex, just 17km west of Rockhampton, will host an expected 4000 competitors in the various events and competitions over the next five days, including the inaugural Graeme Acton Restricted Open Draft.
Graeme Acton had a dream to take the Australian-grown sport of campdrafting to a new level for competitors and spectators and with the help of his brother and business partner, Evan, that dream became a reality.
This will be the first campdraft since the passing of Graeme in May last year.
Spectator numbers are expected to be in the thousands with people coming from near and far for the event and to honour Graeme's dream.
Over the next five days a number of competitions will be held, including the Acton Super Beef Australian Open Draft, the Elders Open Cutting and the RB Sellars Champion of Champions.
Friday evening will see numbers waving in the air as the Super Sires Semen Auction takes place in the cutting arena.
The Crack Up Sisters will provide live entertainment on Saturday night as part of the State of Origin program with special guest, former NRL rugby league coach Anthony Griffin.
