Toowoomba film screens at Cannes

THE makers of a film shot in Toowoomba are hoping to showcase the region to an international audience in Cannes, France.

Tin God, which was filmed in the Garden City, tells the story of two brothers and one woman.

The film’s star and producer, Tana Smith, said he hoped the film would catch the attention of international film buyers.

“We are currently raising the funds to take it to the Cannes film markets in May,” Mr Smith said.

“It will then be screened in front of international film buyers, who will hopefully purchase it.

“There is the Cannes Film Festival, but there is also the film markets where producers or buyers or sellers, such as myself, can arrange screenings.

“It is good exposure.”

Mr Smith said the entire film was shot in Toowoomba two years ago during a particularly chilly winter.

And despite the few production setbacks, including the cold and the leading lady quitting, Mr Smith said he was committed to finishing the project.

“Tin God was a project that I believed in,” he said.

The film was shot on a “shoestring” budget and combines narrative scenes with dramatic performances.

It tells the story of brothers Ethan (played by Mr Smith), his brother, Jesse, and the woman — a fiery-red head named Sasha — who comes between them.

The film’s director, Jake Reedy, and producer, Sarah Dinsey, are also Toowoomba residents.
