Fundies is a winner with its customers
LOCAL Lismore and Byron Bay business Fundies Whole Food Market has taken out the top gong in NSW Fair Trading's I Love My Local Business competition in the Northern New South Wales region.
Fundies Whole Food Market is one of just seven businesses to win in the statewide competition, which celebrates good business practice by asking consumers to nominate their favourite local business.
Director of Fundies Whole Food Market (Go Vita Lismore), Greig Shanley, said winning the competition had surprised him.
"It's fantastic," Mr Shanley said.
"Obviously we're doing the right things; we've got great, friendly and helpful staff."
Fundies, in Lismore since 1983, had gained a bit of a local following, Mr Shanley said, which was something for which he was very grateful.
"Local business is not easy when you've got the big players out there," he said. But it all comes down to giving good service. That's what local businesses can offer."
Mr Shanley said the team was always on the alert for the latest trends and customers' wants and needs.
A local happy customer, Karen English, nominated Fundies Wholefood Market because "they are all about supplying locally sourced healthy food and ingredients that are sourced from local farmers".
"Their products help other small businesses like mine that are in the process of starting up and need affordable and local supplies," Ms English said.
As the successful nominator of a winning business, Karen will receive a $250 cash prize.
Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe congratulated the winners of the competition and noted that Fair Trading had received a 70% increase in entries this year from consumers keen to share their good experiences with local businesses throughout the state.
"This competition shows New South Wales businesses are very popular with consumers and innovative in connecting with their local communities," Mr Stowe said.
